A New York company that insures high-value homes, cars, jewelry and art has entered the New Mexico market.

Privilege Underwriters Reciprocal Exchange (PURE), of White Plains, N.Y., said in a news release that New Mexico's recent wildfires, which destroyed hundreds of buildings, caused it to look at the New Mexico market.

"Natural disasters pose a unique set of challenges to homeowners as they seek to return to their everyday lives, and it's in circumstances like that families often take a closer look at how their insurance responds," said PURE President and CEO Ross Buchmueller.

PURE defines high-value homes as those worth $750,000 or more.

PURE provides insurance to 13,000 families and individuals in 37 states. It has an "A-" rating from A.M. Best Co.
