Saga home insurance urges precaution for Jubilee celebrations - Fair Investment Company

Many people are looking forward to Jubilee celebrations and a long weekend, but Saga home insurance urges householders to make sure their belongings stay covered while they're enjoying the festivities.

Saga has estimated that 2.4 million over 50s will take part it street parties to mark the Jubilee, but it urges them to ensure that any possessions they take with them into the street are covered under their home insurance policy while out of the home.

For those who are hosting parties of their own, Saga advises that they put away anything previous or valuable to avoid breakages, and check their policy to make sure garden items are covered too, including furniture, parasols and barbeques. Anyone hiring equipment such as bouncy castles, lighting or sound equipment should also check who would be liable in the event of damage or accidents.

Saga's research has also highlighted the array of new things that people now keep in their homes, compared to the time of the Queen's coronation in 1952. These include electrical appliances, such as washing machines and televisions, to gadgets including mobile phones and MP3 players.

Roger Ramsden, chief executive of Saga Services commented: "Whatever people are planning, it's worth considering potential problems to avoid any damage, injuries or upsets.

"There's no doubt 2012 will be a year to remember – but make sure it's for the right reasons. And, don't forget that while people are out partying, burglars will be looking for any possible opportunity to spoil the fun so people should make sure their homes and gardens are secure – even if they're only popping up the road."
