State agency to hold homeowners' insurance workshop in Myrtle Beach - MyrtleBeachOnline.com

The S.C. Department of Insurance will have a free homeowners' insurance workshop for Grand Strand residents on Thursday.

The Consumer Homeowner's Insurance Policy Review workshop will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sheraton Myrtle Beach Convention Center Hotel, 2101 North Oak Street.

A public input session and public hearing will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the same location for residents wanting to discuss the status of the coastal property insurance marketplace.

Acting Director Gwendolyn McGriff said in a news release that everyone should take time to review their insurance policies and prepare for the hurricane season, which began Friday.

"We encourage consumers to review their policies annually to ensure that their coverage still meets their financial needs and to stop by our policy review workshop to ask questions regarding their insurance coverages," McGriff said. S.C. Department of Insurance staff will have analysts available by phone and in person to answer questions and provide helpful tips and information about property insurance and related issues.

For more information about the event, go to www.doi.sc.gov or call 803-737-6207.

Homeowners should review their home inventory, emergency evacuation plan and preparation of an emergency kit.
